Working From Home Is Different

Most of us have had a job in the real world before. It involves getting up bright and early in the morning, rushing around the house getting things organized for the day ahead - and then potentially commuting to work. Whilst there, we are under the watchful eye of supervisors, staff, and the public.

Any wrong moves could result in a "telling off", which could then result in you losing your job. Of course, we are not saying that you are a bad worker - but instead simply trying to prove the point that indeed working from home is different to working at an office or store.

Given the above example of the structure of workplaces these days, you have to wonder - why doesn't everyone work from home? Are there any downsides to this apparently "flexible" and "free" way of living? As with pretty much any type of work in life, there are indeed a few downfalls.

Let's take a look at these in depth, which should result in a better understanding of the differences between working at home (online), and working in an office. At the end of our analysis, you should then be able to decide which work style you are best suited for.

The Major Drawback.

There is one major drawback of working online from home. Many people fail to take this factor in to account when they go on the hunt for online employment, and then find later that it was a particularly major oversight. It's called motivation.

Just imagine, sitting there by yourself at your computer screen, day in and day out. Regardless of what work you are required to do, the fact is that you will probably suffer from a number of distractions which are present at home, but which are not present in a traditional workplace.

Number 1 - the TV. Number 2 - the internet. Number 3 - the refrigerator. If you lack the self control and motivation needed to succeed at home, you will find that you get far less work done than you did at the office in your previous job. Remember, more often than not - you will be paid for results via the internet - not on an hourly basis. Therefore, if you fail to spend enough time producing quality results, you will earn far less than you used to.
